Jammu Tawi, December 29:
Young activists from the J&K People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today attempted a protest march against what they called a “brazen sale” of Jammu and Kashmir’s resources to businesses.
The slogan march which, according to party sources, was offered to Raj Bhawan in protest against the administration’s recent decision to allocate a huge plot of land to the outside real estate company.
However, the large contingent present nearby prevented PDP militants from marching towards the main road. Raising slogans against the ruling BJP and the LG administration, the young activists alleged that the Union government, under the guise of bringing in investment, was selling old state resources to companies that fund the ruling party in the Center.
They said that, on the one hand, the BJP government was assured of securing the cultural identity, jobs and identity of the people of the Ladakh region, while on the other hand, Jammu and Kashmir was open to non-locals, endangering the unique culture and ethnic identity of the former state.
PDP protest activists today said J & K’s biggest problem was unemployment, which climbed to 18%, the highest in the country. They also accused the BJP government of being devoid of any vision for Jammu and Kashmir. âThose in Delhi use Jammu as a laboratory. The vision of the BJP is only to divide and conquer, to make people fight against each other and to sell our resources to outsiders, âthey said.
The PDP, the protesters said, will not be the dumb spectator of the administration’s brazen loot that has no stake in society. âOfficers make policies without understanding the realities on the ground. They only act to blindly follow and apply the Delhi and Nagpur dictates, âthey added.
